The Victorian House: Eclectic WC

The under stairs WC was functional but lacked style. The split level flooring, due to the cellar head below, created an area of unusable space which attracted clutter. The ceiling was exposed to the wooden stairs structure above, which made cleaning tricky and the space felt dark and drab.

We sourced a midi wardrobe which fit the dimensions of the space perfectly, providing excellent storage capacity to tidy away all the clutter. We replaced the sink and taps to give them a brighter, cleaner feel.

The ceiling was a challenge due to the sloped pitch and risk of cracking plaster from the stairs above, so we installed matt white UPVC bathroom ceiling panels directly to the slats of the stairs to give the room a sleek finish. Boxing in the waste pipe and replacing the light fitting with a flush light, made the most of the dimensions of the room.

We painted the 3 outer walls in 'Gentle Lamb' by Valspar, a soft cream which helped to brighten and freshen up the walls. Below the dado rail on the main wall was painted in a rich teal, which brought in the colour scheme from elsewhere in the house. We then introduced an accent wallpaper using Guthbiorn paper by Bay Isle Home in a grey, blue and orange colour palette.

The room was dressed with an existing vintage-style mirror and glass shelf above the sink, with orange soap dispenser and hand towel to bring in a vibrant colour splash.

The end result is fabulous.
