This family living room had an alcove in the middle of the wall, which was crying out to be utilised. Previously the TV had perched on a home made unit within the alcove, however the family were hoping for a more modern, streamlined finish and hoped to incorporate a feature fire into the space as well.
A simple measure-up confirmed that we could fit the fire and TV into the space and we set to designing a layout which would work well in the room.
Due to the size of the television, a long, horizontal fire was suggested, which would sit underneath the TV.
Space for the TV to be flush mounted above, as well as a cubby for the sound bar and other accessories were built into the mock-up, to create a practical and sleek design.
After removing the plinth from the old TV unit, we added additional power to safely install the fire, as well as adding additional sockets for the TV and other electrical appliances.
We then built across the alcove wall using stud and plasterboard, to create the frames for the fire, plinth and the TV.
Due to the size of the existing TV, we had to build multiple frame-work, utilising the existing sides of the alcove to take full advantage of all the available width.
The walls were then plastered over to provide a seamless finish to the wall.
With new skirting board and coving in place, and a fresh coat of paint, the room has been given a practical focal point, introducing a cosy feature fire, whilst taking full advantage of the available space.
